Fong-Leng is without a doubt one of the most influential creative designers in the history of Dutch fashion.
In a nutshell, Fong-Leng had fashion shows at the most exclusive venues and the people who wanted to attend the shows had to pay an entrance fee.
When the rumours were being spread, people literally fought for tickets because they just hàd to be there to see what Fong-Leng's latest creations would be and the shows were known to be spectacular!
Fong-Leng had her shows at the Beurs van Berlage, van Gogh museum (1974), Tropen museum (1976), Koninklijk Theater Carré Amsterdam (1977), art sociëty "Arti et Amicitae" (1981) and de Miranda bad and she had a huge succes with her show at the PSV Stadium where 20.000 people came to see her fashionshow, she is the one and only to ever have a fashion show for such a huge audience. A show like this was unimaginable in Holland or across the globe but she did it!! You can see a part of this show in the video below.
For years Fong-Leng had her own store in the infamous "P.C. Hooftstraat" in Amsterdam and passers by would literally push their noses against the windows of the store, curious to see the dressing of the windows, which were always amazing.
From the moment we met about eight years ago via a mutual friend it clicked between us and soon after I became her personal assistant and personal photographer and we became really close friends.
When Fong-Leng was asked to be featured in L'Officiel magazine she arranged that I would be her photographer.
L'Officiel wanted two portraits of Fong-Leng in her living room and also some of her personal belongings, which would be styled by Thamar Luthart, the stylist booked for that day.
Beforehand Fong-Leng and I discussed about what we should do to make the photo's extra special.
We decided that Fong-Leng would be photographed in front of her painting "the Tiger and the Elephant" which she made from leather wearing a tattoo shirt with a tiger on it.
For the second photo we decided that Fong-Leng would wear one her own designs, a manteaux from beautiful rich green leather/suede and she would sit very elegantly on one of her own designed sofas.
Thamar was exploring Fong-Lengs apartment to find personal belongings to style for photo's which we photographed after I had photographed Fong-Leng and I also photographed Thamar wearing two Fong-Leng creations , the Swarovski and the Russian manteaux.
When the 5 year anniversary edition was launched it was a great night at the Posthoorn kerk in Amsterdam. The attendees were fashion insiders, stylists, designers, the team who work for L'officiel and the photographers who contributed to the magazine.
The 5 year anniversary turned out to be beautiful and I am proud of this editorial that we made together.
